Hospital Intensive Care, also known as Critical Care, is potentially life-saving and very challenging for all involved: doctors, nurses, therapists and, especially, patients and their families/friends. This talk, based on 22 years of ethics consultation and teaching of medical residents in an ICU, will address problems and possibilities, focusing on actual cases, for all who must struggle in critical clinical situations.

Terry M. Perlin, Ph.D. is a Consultant in Medical Ethics in hospitals, nursing facilities and hospices. He is Emeritus Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies and Research Fellow, Scripps Gerontology Center, Miami University [OH]. He has served as director of the medical ethics program at University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and as Visiting Professor at Wright State University School of Medicine and University of California, San Francisco.
